Education in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences
At the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences it is possible to study for the lower university degrees (Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Science in Technology). Students holding a Bachelor's degree may study for the higher university degrees (Master of Science/Master of Science in Technology). The studies aiming for the lower and higher university degrees are conducted in degree programmes.
There are twelve degree programmes taught in Finnish:
- Environmental Sciences (only B.Sc.)
- Biochemistry
- Biology
- Physics
- Geology
- Chemistry
- Geography
- Mathematics
- Statistics
- Computer Science
- Biotechnology (B.Sc. and M.Sc. in technology (DI in Finnish))
- Computer technology, electronics and communication systems (B.Sc. and M.Sc. in technology (DI in Finnish))
In addition to these programmes, the Faculty also offers education leading to Master's degree in five fields, where language of instruction is English:
- Master's Degree Programme in Bioinformatics
- Master's Degree Programme in Embedded Computing
- Master's Degree Programme in Environmental Sciences
- Master's Degree Programme in Information Security and Cryptography
- Master's Degree in Physical Sciences, Astronomy track
Students admitted to these programmes study only for the higher university degree (Master's degree), and they must hold a university degree which gives them eligibility to Master level studies.
After the Master's degree, it is possible to continue for postgraduate studies. The following postgraduate degrees are awarded at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences:
- Licenciate of Philosophy
- Licenciate of Science in Technology
- Doctor of Philosophy
- Doctor of Science in Technology
