Admission and entrance examination

The Department of Geography has a strict numerus clausus system in accepting new students in the Bachelor's level studies. The annual intake of students for the degree programme is limited to 25. The number of applicants varies between 250-300. The selection of students is based on the school certificates and the entrance examination organised by the department.

The language of instruction in the Bachelor's level is mainly Finnish. Therefore it is necessary that the applicant is fluent in Finnish.

Master's degree studies

In most case, Finnish university students aim to take the Master's degree. The admission to the Bachelor's degree currenlty entitles the continuation to the Master's degree.

In case an applicant holds a degree equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from a Finnish university (180 ECTS), s/he may apply for Master' degree studies in English. The Faculty offers three Master's Degree Programmes, where language of instruction is English. The programme covers different interdisciplinary specialisation fields that are managed by four Departments at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences including the Department of Geography.
