Research in the Department of Geography and Geology
A firm basis for research is provided by the body of scientific publications and doctoral theses already produced by the department, its smoothly functioning network of collaborators in Finland and abroad and the constant interaction between teaching and research. The research staff is composed of senior researchers, young postdoctoral workers, postgraduate students and those engaged in advanced studies for their MSc. degree. Continuity and a steady influx of new researchers are ensured by virtue of the research interests of those occupying teaching positions, the teaching given by members of the research teams, the lively interaction between researchers and the availability of material resources. The department and its research staff participate extensively in information networks and in cooperation with other units within the university.
