DEVELOPMENT STUDIES 2009-2010 University of Turku
Development Studies programme is offered by the Department of Geography. It is meant to be taken in the middle of studies when the student has already done basic studies in his/her the main subject. The programme offers a broad overview to the global development issues and to the regional differences in development. Different development theories and questions, as well as cultural, social, economical and environmental factors prevailing in the developing countries are discussed. Although the concept of ‘development’ already generally includes the idea of sustainability, the notion of ‘sustainable development’ is emphasized and elaborated.

Coordinator of Development studies will be from 15th of January onwards Rebecca Frilund (rebfri at utu.fi). The Director of Development studies is professor Risto Kalliola.
Excerpts from the teaching in spring 2010
- Dr. Nsubuga Haroonah from Zanzibar will give lectures on topic: “Towards a Corruption Free Society. Fighting a Loosing Battle" 2 ETCS. Planned time of teaching is 20 – 28.4.
