We have established a preliminary website for the Center for Software Business and Engineering (CSBE). This joint Center of the University of Turku and Turku School of Economics coordinates the research and business development activities of three research groups at these universities in the areas of software engineering, software product development, and the general management aspects of software business. The board of the interuniversity institute Turku Center for Computer Science (TUCS) resolved in December to find this Center a member of the TUCS Community.
The Center plans to contribute centrally to the forthcoming merger of the two universities, but welcomes both occasional and deep collaboration from neighboring research groups at either Turku-based, other Finnish, or foreign universities. The Management Board of the Center currently includes Professor Markus Mäkelä, Antero Järvi, Project Manager, Professor Timo Knuutila, Professor Pasi Malinen, Professor Antti Paasio, and Professor Jussi Puhakainen.
For further information, contact the Director, Professor Markus Mäkelä. The Center's website will be developed during 2008 to offer more comprehensive information.

- Mikko Rönkkö, researcher at the Group, was awarded a two-year funding in the annual, very competitive funding allocation round of the TUCS Graduate School, whose reputation always attracts many high-level applicants also from foreign universities. About half dozen applications out of some 30-40 are accepted each year. The election procedure of the TUCS Graduate School is notable for its rigor, requiring the preparation of relatively many planning documents for the applicant, and using two reviewers and a quantified evaluation process.

- Planning for a Center for Software Business and Engineering (working title) was begun at Turku Center for Computer Science as a collaboration of three research groups from the University of Turku and Turku School of Economics, working in the areas of software engineering, software product development, information systems, and high-technology entrepreneurship. At realization, this organizational development will involve the move of the Software Product Development Research Group's research activities from the current Product Development Laboratory into the larger Center. We intend that the new Center will importantly facilitate novel, productive collaboration in academic and applied research alike in the its operating area. The Center aims to be one of TUCS' major research units in the strategic research focus areas of applied ICT and commercialization.
