Master's Degree Programme in Environmental Sciences

Welcome to study environmental sciences at the University of Turku!

The University of Turku offers a two-year Master's Degree Programme in Environmental Sciences, which started in September 2005. The programme is multidisciplinary in nature, and has strong connections to basic and applied research, environmental assessment and economic life. Tuition is free and education is given in English. The programme challenges the students to broaden their perspectives in environmental issues, while offering specialisation and profound scientific knowledge in a selected subfield of environmental sciences.

The programme covers different interdisciplinary specialisation fields that are managed by three Departments at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences: Department of Biology, Department of Geology and the Department of Geography. As a cooperation of these participating units, the programme offers specialisation studies in:

  • Ecotoxicology
  • Geoinformatics in Environmental Research
  • Quaternary Paleoecology and Environmental Change
  • Tropical Environments and Development

The lectures offered in the frames of the programme are also open to exchange students of the Universities in Turku. Please note, however, that the curriculum is subject to changes.

Applications for studies beginning in autumn 2010

The application period is 1 December 2009 - 1 February 2010 for studies starting in September 2010. In this case, a certified copy of the original degree certificate (in the original language), and an English, Swedish of Finnish translation (or a Diploma Supplement), must arrive at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences by 3 August 2010 at 16:15 (local time in Finland). Applications arriving after the deadline are not considered. Postmark dates on the applications will not be taken into account; the applications must arrive at University Admissions Finland before the above deadline.

The electronic application form is available on http://www.universityadmissions.fi/.

All applications are sent to University Admissions Finland, from where the complete applications are forwarded to the universities.

The following documents must be sent by the applicant:
