Frequently asked questions about applying

Who may apply?

-Both Finnish and foreign students who possess a BSc degree or a Finnish ammattikorkeakoulu degree. A good command of English for academic purposes is also required.

I will complete my BSc. degree during the spring 2012. May I apply?

- Students graduating after the application deadline may apply, on the condition that the application includes a statement from the home institution stating the expected date of graduation. In this case, a certified copy of the original degree certificate (in the original language), and an English, Swedish of Finnish translation (or a Diploma Supplement), must arrive at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences by 25.6.2012 at 16:15 (local time in Finland).

I have studied my whole education in English. May I be excused from the language test?

- Only applicants who have completed their degree in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the United Kingdom or the United States or completed their Bachelor's or polytecnic degree in Finland and demonstrated  language skills in the English language according to the requirements concerning foreign language studies in Bachelor's and polytechnic degrees in Finland are exempt from the English language test. These applicants prove their language proficiency by submitting their degree certificate(s) and transcript(s) of records.

Can the language test be taken after the expiry of the application round?

- No, it can not. All required documents should reach us by the deadline, including the language test results. The TOEFL or IELTS language test score is valid for two years, so it can be taken well before the start of the application round.

Which institutional code should be used in order to send the language test results to the correct address?

- For the TOEFL Registration Form, please fill in University Admissions Finland's Institution Code 3138 in the Score Report Recipient field. All language test results must be sent to University Admissions (University Admissions Finland, Yliopistonkatu 2, FI-00170 Helsinki, Finland) by the deadline. It is the applicant’s responsibility to make testing arrangements for her/himself.

I have applied to the same programme earlier. Is it possible to re-apply with the same enclosures?

- Unfortunately it is not possible to apply with the same enclosures as all the applications are preliminarily processed at University Admissions Finland, not at at the University of Turku, where all the earlier documents are archived. Furthermore, the University of Turku does not take responsibility for sending the applicants' documents to the UAF.

When and how will the admission decisions be given?

- The admission decisions are published on 16 April 2012, and the list of  admitted students is published on the programme website (except for those who do not whish their name to be published). The official letters of acceptance/rejection are posted on the above mentioned date.
