Processing the applications and acceptance
The preliminary processing of the applications is done at the University Admissions Finland. The service also reminds the applicants for lacking enclosures. Complete applications are forwarded to the Universities for further evaluation. The prosessing of the applications can roughly be devided in to following phases.
Phase 1:
The processing of the applications begins with rejecting applications that lack any of the absolutely required enclosures. Inadequate applications will be rejected without considering the whether the applicant fills the language and degree requirements.
Phase 2:
In the second phase the formal eligibility is evaluated. For the application to be processed further the applicant must fill:
a) the language requirements
AND
b) the academic prerequisites (has a minimum 3-year-Bachelor's or equivalent degree in a relevant field from an accreditated university or amk institute)
If either one of these criteria is not fulfilled, the application is rejected and will not be processed further. If the above mentioned criteria are filled, further prosessing is done by the coordinator and the professors at the Master's Degree Programme in Environmental Sciences.
Phase 3:
If the criteria given above are fulfilled, we start checking the contents of the degree (courses, grades, and so on), and an overall evaluation of your application is done in order to see whether you can be accepted or not. The eligible applications are sent to the academic professors responsible for the specialisation field in question. The professors evaluate how well the content of the degree suits the requirements of the specialisation field and are the grades good enough. Motivation letter is a very important factor in this phase, since the professors also put a lot of weight on the applicant's motivation to study in the particular specialisation field.
Our admission quota is 20 and the number of eligible applicants is always bigger than the admission quota, which means that there is competition between formally eligible candidates for being among the accepted students.
All applicants who submitted their application by the deadline will be notified about the decision concerning their applications. The letters are posted by regular mail on the day of publication of the results (decided yearly in October for the following application round), which concerning this Master's degree Programme is 15.4.2011. On this day the names of the admitted students will be published on this web page (concerning applicants who have given us the permission to do so).
Please do not make any inquiries concerning your acceptance before the above-mentioned time. No authorative desicions will be given over the telephone. All applicants, including unsuccessful ones, will be informed.
