Costs for studying in Finland

There are no tuition fees at Finnish Universities. However, living in Finland is expensive, up from 700 Euros per month for a single student, depending on accommodation costs. It should be noted that the University of Turku does not provide scholarships; the costs of living are covered by the students themselves. By the Finnish law, students studying for a basic University degree must be members of the Student Union, the annual fee of which (year 2011-2012) is 90 €. Members of the Student Union are entitled to Student Health Care and several other benefits that soon outdo the initial costs. Please follow the following links to gain more information:

Please note that, even though the students are entitled to student health care, foreign students should take an insurance at their home country before coming to Finland! The insurance should cover costs for health care when student health care is not available, eg. during evenings, weekends and holidays. Requirements of the insurance necessary for getting a residence permit are told here.
