Centres of Excellence:
Research at the Department of Biology
Under the strategic plan of the new multidisciplinary University of Turku, "Ecological interactions and Ecological Genetics" research was chosen as one of six focal areas of strength. This reflects the multifaceted, international, and high quality research conducted at the Department of Biology. The department also hosts a National Centre of Excellence in Evolutionary Genetics and Physiology, three highly-cited professors, and one Academy of Finland professor. On top of this, Nordic Centre of Excellence status has been assigned to the Nordic research group in tundra ecology. Most of the research in the Department is funded by external grants.
