DIA-NET Doctoral Programme Workshop on Entrepreneurship

20-21.10.2011

Organized in collaboration with Tekes, Finpro and Indian DBT

Location: Auditorium, Mauno Koivisto -keskus, BioCity, Tykistökatu 6A, Turku

Description:

Within the many niches of biotechnology, start-up enterprises are common and frequently encouraged through government-subsidized programs. Incubators and technology villages are mostly encountered in close association with dynamic and innovation centered universities and research units specialized in various technology areas. Small innovative enterprises active within the field of diagnostics have already over a long period been particularly common in Finland.

With the "Workshop on Entrepreneurship" the organizers strives to cover topics - opportunities, challenges as well as hardships - in relation to the process of establishing new companies and making them survive and thrive.

The start-up process:

Initial conditions for surviving and growing

In tune with the prevailing market trends?or not ?or ahead?

Ideas and intellectual property as drivers

Alliances with academics and other enterprises

     Finding government support

     Finding long-term risk money

The requisites for growth:

The right know-how turned into timely products

     Identifying and finding the customers

     Going international

Finding partners for alliances and distribution

In a specific session the course will address the potentials for scientific and industrial interaction of the Finnish diagnostic know-how, enterprises and organizations with intentions encouraged by the Indian government to develop and meet the enormous need of diagnostics in a nation under rapid and expansive development.

Credits: Mandatory presence 1 ECTS
