Studying at the Department of Biochemistry and Food Chemistry
The Department of Biochemistry and Food Chemistry offers a versatile academic degree programme in Biochemistry (in Finnish language). The programme allows students to take a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree, and then to continue to one of the department’s four optional Master of Science (M.Sc.) programmes: Biochemistry, Molecular Biotechnology and Diagnostics, Food Chemistry, or Molecular Plant Biology. In addition, the department organises a parallel degree programme in Engineering which gives students a possibility to take an engineer degree (M.Sc. in Technology, DI) in Biotechnology or in Food Development.
Although the primary teaching language in the degree programmes is Finnish, some of the M.Sc. courses (including all M.Sc. courses in the DI study programme in Analytical Biotechnology) are held in English [Curricula]. These courses are specifically directed at foreign exchange students participating in the studies via the Erasmus or other exchange programmes. Information on Nordplus exchange program is available on the Faculty's web pages.
The staff responsible for matters concerning student exchange at the department are Professor Rainer Huopalahti (Erasmus) and Professor Kim Pettersson (Nordplus). More information for international students is available on the University's site for international studies and Faculty's site for exchange students.
